In 2011, Uptime Institute significantly expands its core competencies with the concept of Digital Infrastructure. The Uptime Institute defines Digital Infrastructure as the entire enterprise-wide computing environment, not just the data centers. Digital Infrastructure encompasses the IT strategy drivers of Business Requirements, Facilities Infrastructure, and Technology Infrastructure.
Uptime Institutes’ Digital Infrastructure Services works to avoid the misuse of capital investment that occurs when these IT strategy drivers are misaligned. If the facilities solution is undersized, the data center becomes obsolete in terms of business needs. If oversized, capacity is stranded and the capital investment does not deliver full value to the organization.
Additionally, Digital Infrastructure Services addresses the prevalent, inadequate planning that result in waste on a day-by-day level. Cost savings and performance enhancements are frequent benefits of an evaluation of best use of operations resources (energy costs, staff, etc.).
The Digital Infrastructure Roadmap is one of the key components of the Uptime Institute’s expanded service catalogue. Its objectives include:
- Integrate Business, IT, and Facilities Requirements into a coherent IT Strategy
- Discover, analyze, plan an optimized end state
- Guide a holistic solution that optimizes CAPEX and OPEX Investment while meeting business requirements on an ongoing basis
